I bought this cashmere scarf at a car boot sale a while ago for .50c.
Any 100% cashmere can be boil washed and becomes felted. It can be cut and used without fraying for any felt project. So regardless of style, i will always pick up cashmere. I pretty much knew what i was going to do with this scarf.
I've always been a bit prone to a mood board, mainly when decorating a room. When I was working I had access to piles of fashion and decor magazines. Ripping out any picture that appealed to me. Sorting through my tear sheets, my personal trends would emerge.
I don't have access to the same quantity of material as i did then. I only ever buy a Sunday newspaper now and a magazine is a rare treat. Thank goodness for Pinterest. But you can't beat hard copy.
Many of the images on my pin board at the moment are from a Toast catalogue from a couple of seasons ago. Including the one that inspired my latest crafting endeavour.
So a bit of freehand scissors work and a touch of blanket stitching later, and.......
Ta-dah! 100% cashmere hottle bottle cover. Roll on winter!!!!

what a score! and i love what you did with it! cant beat a snuggly hottie (i have a fur one!). I'm totally mad for anything made out of check wool fabric. I saw a curtain made out of a green and grey check wool blanket in country living uk last year and am obsessed with finding something similar to do the same in my chilly hall. I've been foiled by the super long drop so far, but one day... (i could totally live in a toast catalogue!) x

ReplyDeleteOh my! That is just wonderfully snuggly and makes me wish for the cold weather even harder then normal. I have been thinking about Hot water bottles ready for this winter but they arent available in the shops yet... But when I manage to find some, this is a better idea then me trying to Knit covers for them and much quicker xoxo I am absolutly following your blog now as I've just come across you from Ta-Dah Tuesday links.

ReplyDeleteI picked up a huge wide scottish wool scarf but it's just WAY to large for the purpose it was intended for. I plan on turning it into a throw cushion cover. It's tartan and will go perfectly with my vintage sofa.
That is blinking BRILLIANT ! Such a clever idea. For a start 50c for a cashmere scarf has got to be a steal. Cashmere is absolutely one of my most favourite things ever. I've looked at those knitted cashmere bottle covers in catalogues and they're a wild price. Anyway yours is so much nicer. Seriously impressed with your blanket stitch skills too. Looks perfect.

That looks great - a clever idea skilfully executed. seeing the nice things people are finding, transforming and making for Winter makes me forget the cold, dark side and think of all the opportunities for making stuff.
