Ta-Dah Tuesday - Trip the light fantastic!

I'm sure I'm not alone in getting stuck into a certain category of thrift and perhaps going a bit overboard every now and then.  Both Mr Thrift Bee and Little Bee have started saying 'not another lamp' when I come home from a days scavenging shopping. But one of these angled lamps has been on my thrift list for a while. Its really heavy base prevents it from falling over. I'm thrilled with it.

This is the third standard lamp I've bought in the last two weeks. One I'm keeping, the second is for a friend who said she wanted one when she saw mine. This one is for selling at the flea market. It has a lovely mid century modern feel about it, but the shade is a bit dull. What i'd really like is a straight sided circular shade and will keep my eyes peeled. In the meantime I decided to give this shade a makeover.

Using some recently thrifted paper tablecloths,

some spray adhesive and watered down pva glue

It took a while to work out the best way to cut the paper but my boring cream shade became....

Ta-dah.

And looks like this lit up.

  1. Ace! I love your make over! An anglepoise lamp it on my thrift list too and i had been hoping since i found my globe light that one might come up, but no such luck! Yours looks a beauty, and one can never have to many lamps (my hubby nags about 'the electrics' and insists on getting any i buy checked over by an electrician) x

  3. Love it! Looks fantastic - was it easy to get on smooth? Like your angled lamp too, think I need one for close-up work (or maybe a new pair of specs)
I'm also guilty of falling into a thrift buying groove...and there's no on here to stop me.. :)

  4. Great make over on the shade! I used to have a great anglepoise lamp when I was a student, but it's sadly long gone... One day I'll find another one in a charity shop! xxx

  5. Hi Thrift Bee :)

Your standard lamp makeover is beautiful. You will have no problem selling that. I love to see the results of your shopping/scavenging :) Do you find it difficult to part with some of the items you buy to sell on? Oh and I do like the anglepoise lamp ... very rare to find one of those in good condition.

  9. Fabulous, I really love how it looks all illuminated. Fab anglepoise too, although I had an irrational fear of them when I was little. I think I'm over it now, but I'm still semi convinced that they can move about on their own.
